Blog Entry #9 Topics in Food Quest

Everyone knows fast food is not the clear choice of food but it is efficient. In America, it is a part of our culture to eat fast food at least once a week. For example, while you were watching tv, you have probably seen one commercial from Mc Donalds or any other fast food place. Fast food is everywhere and it is impossible to run from it.

Speaking of running, as shown in the picture, Ronald Mc Donald is on a treadmill running trying to lose weight, however, above the drained out Ronald is a phrase that emphasizes, "Junk Food+Gym= No Result". Thus, the illustrator is golden for making this illustration, for Ronald Mc Donald represents not only Mc Donalds but the entire fast food industry! Moreover, the number one counter to fast food people automatically think of is working out. The author realizes and considers that people have a pattern to eat fast food and try to make up for it by working out. Therefore, the author targets that particular audience by noting an easy-to-remember equation above the exhausted Ronald.

This whole illustration resembles the struggle to lose weight but maintain the love for fast food. Calories add up fast as gas prices skyrocket. The author wants the audience to have an epiphany that if one were to run on the treadmill, and then eat fast food it is like they never worked out in the first place. Furthermore, the artist sets a serious tone as he strikes Mc Donalds resembling an obese Ronald Mc Donald. In other words, he is making it clear that keeping an unhealthy lifestyle can make anyone look like Ronald; this sets one persuasive method, the fear factor.

  1. I think fast food is good as long as its once in awhile. Fast food everyday is not going to be healthy for a person if they are eating it everyday and for every meal. I think that is with a little bit of everything. At the end of the day most things are ok within moderation.

  2. I can agree with ashtun as well, fast food is fine as long as it is not a repeating process of binge eating fast food. Although working out and then eating a greasy burger from mcdonalds may seem pointless, as long as you can hold yourself accountable of the foods you put in your body, there shouldn't be much harm done.
